Overview of the Import Export Code (IEC Code).

A 10-digit Import Export Code (IEC) is required for Indian import/export enterprises. It is granted by the DGFT of the Ministry of Commerce and does not need to be filed or renewed. Importers require IEC in order to pass customs and make payments to international banks, whereas exporters require it in order to transfer goods and receive payments.The IEC Number is required for any importer/exporter doing business in India.
